Expiration Date
So you have some unused sport supplements, but they are expired, on the other hand they look good to you, what to do? Do you immediately throw out the bottle, or take the supplements for a few more days or months?
First of all, all supplements start to break down the day they are manufactured, and of course at different rates. Manufacturers test their products rigorously in order to guarantee the label strength up until the expiration date. Further, manufacturers are not required to labeled expiration dates, but most of them do it voluntarily in order to take full responsibility for their products only within a certain time frame. Finally, all these mean that a product after expiration date is still good, but manufacturer will not take responsibility if label strength has been lost over time.
What is the expiration date? Obviously, expiration date is a guideline for how long a supplement remains potent. But, fact is, many products continue to hold their nutritional value years past listed "expiration date." Again, obviously, each supplement will vary on product efficacy, depending on the quality of raw materials used.
How to Extend the Life of Supplements? First of all, store your supplements according the manufacturer instruction. Also, keep on mind the higher the quality of raw material used for a particular supplement, the longer it will maintain potency once it pass the expiration date. All supplements should be kept in their original containers or stored in airtight containers. Keep all your supplements away from light, moisture, and heat.
For how long supplements can be used after the expiration date? Amino Acids - will maintain potency approximately 1 year following expiration. Vitamin - Mineral Supplements - most will maintain efficacy approximately 2 years following expiration date. Fish Oils - Most will be good approximately 3 months after the expiration date. Juices and Liquid - they will maintain efficacy approximately 1 year past the expiration date. Enzymes - will maintain potency approximately 1 year past the expiration date. Herbal Products - they maintain potency for approximately 2 years following expiration.
